Our response to OK State Rep. Sally Kern...

[this is good]
Great response. More people need to speak out.

You response is waaaaaay too reasonable, which only paves the way for advocates of hate to peddle their agenda.

People like Sally Kern, who create an atmosphere of hate toward minorities, give their moronic followers the dogwhistle signal that killing gay people is acceptable, even praiseworthy. Sally Kern and everyone who thinks like her have the blood of Lawrence King on their hands.

To respond with anger only gets anger back. The point is to recognize commonality and expose the true hate for what it is without an angry response. isn't this the same response that Barack Obama says we should avoid? The politics of old? To work with our enemies on common ground but pointing out that intolerance of views is not in our mantra? Sally Kern is someone who uses ignorance as a weapon, however, our side always uses a response that only ends up marginalizing our side from the norm. We constantly argue that we are the norm, responses from the interest groups responding from our side have only pointed out how we are different not the same and that we are only interested in helping ourselves rather than everyone. It is by working on all rights rather than special rights that we will win. We aren't going to win over the people who want to hear Sally Kern. We can only embolden the indifferent to marginalize her not for her hate (because prejudice is inside all of us regardless of what we say) but for her own diversion from the norm by hating. I leave with this example, Orrin Hatch is not a lover of the liberal agenda but he is reasonable on a lot of other legislation. Working with him has been fruitful on other fronts because of not demonizing him on all issues and focusing on the 3/4ths of what is done. It is only through arguing that we support families in general whatever their make up is where we win. Regardless of what people want families will not always be the mother/father/kids line up - nature and emotion are unpredictable. The issue is really the goal of the state to prevent poverty and improve the economic wherewithall of people.

This is pretty disturbing....

I like that approach. It really is disarming. It turns it around and makes the notion of gays as some sort of horror worse than terrorism look just as ridiculous as it actually is. I don't know that I could be that diplomatic, but I appreciate your willingness to serve as a role model.

did you hear about the clowns who showed up to protest the Nazi's white power rally? http://asheville.indymedia.org/article/107Clowns ...now that is a great way to hold a mirror up to just show how completely inane racism (or any "ism") is.

Poor Sally. Let us pray for her soul.

Blessings.
